Falcons Football Schedule

With the growing popularity of the NFL in the Atlanta area, the annual Falcons football schedule has taken on a whole new meaning as of late. Now it is excitement, not dread, that one can find permeating throughout Georgia as fall rolls around and the action of professional football returns to the Georgia Dome. How did this come to be? It all started around the dawning of the new millennium. The team drafted quarterback Michael Vick, one of the most exciting players ever to don shoulder pads, in 2001. New owner Arthur Blank, co-founder of the Home Depot chain of home improvement stores, bought the team in February of 2002 and immediately started signing key free agents including running back Warrick Dunn. And following the 2003 season, Jim Mora was hired to take over the reigns of the team as the head coach. With those pieces in place, as well as recent draft choices RB T.J. Duckett and CB DeAngelo Hall, the team made the NFC Championship in 2004.

Rivalries and the Falcons Football Schedule

There are only three opponents guaranteed to show up on the Falcons football schedule year in and year out. Those teams are Atlanta' NFC South rivals the Carolina Panthers, the New Orleans Saints and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons, a former member of the NFC West before the league's recent realignment, have a limited history against their current divisional foes. Atlanta currently has an all-time record of 14-6 against the Panthers, while the Falcons have won 42 of the 72 lifetime games they have played against New Orleans. The only one of the three teams that the boys in black and white have a losing record against is Tampa Bay, who hold a slight 10-13 advantage over the "Dirty Birds" from Georgia. If you're considering getting tickets to see the Falcons play, but you're not sure which game to check out, why not consider a game against one of these three NFC South rivals?
