Atlanta Falcons 2005 Schedule

The Atlanta Falcons 2005 schedule brings with it a lot of hope for fans of the NFL franchise. Two years ago, Atlanta had a disastrous season. Quarterback Michael Vick broke his leg during a preseason game, and the team struggled throughout the season. Then-head coach Dan Reeves resigned following the club's 13th game, and the Falcons went on to finish 5-11 after reaching the playoffs the year before. However, perhaps it was a blessing in disguise. The team hired new head coach Jim Mora, the son of former Saints and Colts head coach Jim Mora and himself a former defensive coordinator with the 49ers. Under Mora, and with a healthy Vick, Atlanta won the NFC South with an amazing 11-5 record. They defeated the St. Louis Rams, 47-17, in the NFC Divisional Playoff and advanced all the way to the NFC Championship. While they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-10, in 2004, there is little doubt that the seeds that may lead to a Super Bowl championship have been sewn.

Breaking Down the Atlanta Falcons 2005 Schedule

The Atlanta Falcons 2005 schedule opens with a rematch of that NFC Championship game at home against the Eagles. Afterwards, the Falcons will play back-to-back road games against the Seattle Seahawks and the Buffalo Bills. Atlanta then kicks off October with a pair of games at the Georgia Dome, against Minnesota on October 2 and against the defending NFL champion New England Patriots on October 9. From there, they are scheduled to play at the Saints home field and then host the New York Jets before a bye week. In November and December, the Falcons will travel to Miami, Detroit, Carolina, Chicago and Tampa Bay while playing host to the Packers, Buccaneers, Saints and Panthers. Obviously, with both of last season's Super Bowl teams and several other legitimate playoff contenders on the schedule, it will not be easy for Atlanta to clinch a second straight South division title. But with the DVD offense of Vick and running backs Warrick Dunn and T.J. Duckett, not to mention one of the league's better defenses, they certainly seem to be up to the task.
